Creatividad

Taller de dibujo

Tiempo: 130 horas

Fecha: Sábados, durante 26 semanas entre mayo y noviembre


Objetivo de la actividad: Mejorar una habilidad ya existente.

Descripción de la actividad: Este semestre vió la finalización del taller de dibujo y arte digital que había estado tomando desde febrero. El taller continuó a lo largo del verano y durante el semestre, cada sábado. Son 28 semanas, pero tuve que faltar una porque me fui de vacaciones en verano, y falté una vez durante el semestre para estudiar para un examen. Terminé adquiriendo habilidades muy diversas, desde dibujo con modelo en vivo hasta retratos, cómics, SketchUp (para arquitectura) entre muchas otras cosas a lo largo de los ocho meses que duró el taller. Considero que estas habilidades me serán de suma utilidad más adelante en mi vida ya que estoy seguro que estudiaré algo relacionado con diseño, no sé si arquitectura o animación, pero estoy seguro que esto me ayudará a estar mejor preparado y sobresalir entre mis compañeros.


Reflexión: Honestamente considero que para mi edad, por medio de este taller adquirí habilidades muy avanzadas para mi edad en el ámbito del diseño. He sido admitido al Tecnológico de Monterrey y me interesa estudiar una carrera relacionada con el diseño, mas adicionalmente a sobresalir entre mis compañeros, me gustaría aplicar para una beca disciplinaria y creo que las habilidades que adquirí me ayudarán a ser un mejor candidato para ella. Fuera de planes a futuro, me siento bastante realizado de tomar un pasatiempo y darle seguimiento. Creo que de lo más frustrante que hay en el mundo es que un dibujo salga mal, y gracias a este taller puedo decir que muchas veces a lo largo del curso me sentía muy bien conmigo mismo viendo mis avances frente a mis ojos.

Club estudiantil ArTec (Creatividad y Servicio)

Tiempo: 20 horas de creatividad, 5 de servicio

Fecha: A lo largo del semestre, agosto a diciembre


Objetivo de la actividad: Emprender nuevos desafíos.

Descripción de la actividad: Durante el semestre de enero-mayo, junté una mesa directiva para formar el grupo estudiantil ArTec, que tiene como misión fomentar el arte en la escuela a través de cursos y exposiciones. Yo me desempeñé como presidente. Programaba actividades y proponía ideas para discutir con los demás miembros de la mesa directiva para ver cuál era la manera más eficiente de llegar a nuestra misión. Logramos abrir un taller de dibujo para los estudiantes de la prepa y como servicio a la comunidad donar obras de arte hechas por los estudiantes a una asociación civil llamada Arte & Caridad, que se encarga de vender obras de arte donadas con el fin de financiar sillas de ruedas para niños que las necesiten.


Reflexión: Aunque sabía el reto que conllevaría estar a cargo de algo que puede afectar positivamente la experiencia de la prepa de muchas personas iba a ser desafiante, no sabía qué tanto. Anteriormente había participado como mesa auxiliar en otro grupo estudiantil, pero es totalmente diferente a ser presidente. Considero que yo, y la mesa, ha contribuido de manera satisfactoria a llegar a nuestra misión y espero podamos hacer aún más durante el semestre próximo.

Objetivos de CAS:

• Trabajar en colaboración con otras personas.

Cityscape WIP

Hello, just bringing a quick update. I am in a digital media class on Saturday and this week's assignment was a digital painting in which we could use SketchUp and Photoshop together, so being the big-city-loving person I am, I naturally chose a street view of one of my favorite places in New York, Greenwich Village (where the "Friends" used to live!). I still have a long way to go, but I am really liking how this is going. Perhaps I could add a few characters and turn this into the first portfolio candidate? Stay tuned!

Definetely not Dead

Okay!
So I haven't posted anything here yet and I realized I do have people coming here, And I assume they hope to see... something. My current sketchbook is about 30% done and I hope to have it by August (before school starts, I will post a flip-through of that one), and I have also signed up for a life drawing class. Actually, today was my first session. I will take between three and four of these and then focus solely on a month for school (not a great idea, I know), and I shall continue afterwards. I think it's important for me to mention I've been doing lots of training with Quickposes and Pixelovely (not that I would ever put any of that in my portfolio, it's just to loosen up the old wrist), and it's been my first LD class in like, three months, so forgive the roughness. I mostly stuck with pencil and charcoal (my first time using it as well), although I did venture to do some inked drawings (with no pencil sketch! :0) as well as some colored pencil drawings. I plan on keep doing this until I am confident enough to use pastels, watercolors and markers, and have a preliminary portfolio by November. Yes, I am not the best planner in the world but that's pretty much all I can do given the situation haha! Here's my output from today as well as some stuff I've been doing. Sorry if it's lame, but as I mention, it's my first session in a long time! (I'll add some context).

 I guess this is the best one I did. It was all done with a Prismacolor Ebony Pencil.

 Then there was a dreadful pose, the model was facing right towards me with her arms and legs extended, sitting on the ground, so I drew the people around me. It's cool to see how into it they are! Top is done with Ebony Pencil, bottom Micron Pen (Sorry if it's hard to see, I took this with my iPhone and played with contrast and sharpness the best I could).

This one would be pretty cool if the leg not in view wasn't horrible.

This is actually from Quickposes, I recently bought some Vine Charcoal and paper stumps, so I'm trying them out. I'd say it was a pretty good first attempt, but I gotta keep practicing!

Hi there

Hello, my name is Luis Sifuentes. I am currently a 16-year old who has just wrapped up his junior year in an IB school in Monterrey, Mexico. I am an aspiring animator, and I will use this as a way to look back after some years to reflect on my progress. I intend to attend the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Valencia, CA, although I have some backups, such as SVA, CCA, and Carnegie Mellon, as the acceptance rate is a little low. As a little artistic background, I had never formally taken any art class up until last February when I enrolled in an eight month-long drawing and digital mediums class, which has helped me improve a lot. I pretty much decided to start this blog today because:

• It's the first day of the sixth month of the year, so we're half way there (didn't realize how fast the January deadline is approaching until I typed that down!)
• I am just back from a new art class, sticking to traditional mediums, to improve mainly on my anatomy. (This teacher helped a friend get into CalArts, so I expect big things!)
